Mindful Book Reviews By Eve: City by Ingela P. Arrhenius

IMG_7468

This book is not only coffee table worthy, it could actually be a coffee table-just add legs! I love everything about this giant-sized, hardcover picture book that is full of awesome, fun illustrations accompanied by big, bold words in varied, unique fonts. Each poster-sized page is full of delightful city attractions, richly detailed with endearing characters. This is a truly whimsical celebration of city life that will be poured over for hours-and-hours.

This book would make a perfect gift for the holidays (Can’t deny the super “wow factor” of its size) and for every day. I absolutely love the gorgeous illustrations and fancy fonts!

Mindful Book Reviews By Eve: 3 Books by Florenza Lee

3 Books by Florenza Lee:

IMG_5219 (1)Barry Bear’s Very Best: Learning To Say No To Negative Influences by Florenza Lee; Illustrated by Michelle Wynn

This book addresses the very heavy and real life topics of drugs, bullying and bad choices through the very positive eyes of a young bear who is of strong conviction and knows that striving to be the best he can be is the way to live a happy, satisfying life. He is a wonderful role model and because of the deepness of the topics, it can be shared with children as well as pre-teens and up as well. It is a very accessible story highlighting goodness in oneself.

The Tail Of Max The Mindless Dog: A Children’s Book on Mindfulness by Florenza Lee; Illustrated by Michelle Wynn

I really like how the main character, the mindless dog, is an analogy to the way our thoughts run rampant in our heads, like a dog mindlessly chasing its tail. Relentless and mind numbing. This book does a great job introducing deep belly breathing and the use of chanting to bring focus and calm. The chant is cute and memorable. I really like the straight forward approach of this book and it can be shared not only with children but pre-teens and up as well.

IMG_5221 (1)Welcome Home Daddy Love, Lexi: “Hi, I am…” Book Series by Florenza Lee; Illustrated by Maria Guevara

This is a very deep, reflective and richly detailed story of a very important topic. It is beautifully written with such love and compassion and I am sure speaks truly of this sacrifice of the whole military family unit. It was hard to read without tearing up. This story highlights the courage and strength of these families

This dynamic trio of straight forward help book are full of positive characters who face adversity but are able to remain true to themselves and use self-determination, courage and self-respect to fight against the odds. These are strong books and they need to be heard! These are especially good for addressing trauma and for learning how to be strong and courageous!

Thank you to Florenza Lee for sending me these books. All opinions expressed are my own.

Mindful Book Reviews By Eve: Black Bird Yellow Sun by Steve Light

First off this book is so bright and captivating. I love that it is a board-book. Big kudos! I love the sharp-black raven/crow set against the brightly colored, tacky-paint textured palette of the pages. The colors make me feel happy. A cute addition is the special friend that follows through the book-catching the eye in each page spread, so there’s a game of eye-spy going on. This is a sweet first book of colors.

Here is a book trailer for it that I found online

AramKim_MCCBDposter2018FINAL-1

In conjunction with the Multicultural Children’s Book Day, I received several wonderful, diverse books, from both Second Story Press and Star Bright Books. I really appreciate that both companies have shared missions to include a strong representation of underserved communities. Special shout out to the #readyourworld community for spreading this mission across the planet.

Dynamic Women Dancers by Anne Dublin
This book will help your child (or you) fall madly in love with dance. These women were risk takers, self-determined, creative forces in movement. The book offers a great variety of dance styles with dancers I both knew about and those I had never heard of before. I was able to expand my knowledge. This is a great mid-grade non-fiction book about dance. The author, Anne Sokolow, takes great pride in revealing unique details and a strong history for each dancer. This book is a marvelous jewel!

Emily Included by Kathleen McDonnell 51kHQ2k+YfL._SX361_BO1,204,203,200_
This is a wonderful book! It is not just the earnest tale of a brave and determined young girl but it is an honest and openhearted story about a young girl with cerebral palsy that allows us to witness her feelings, experience her disability first hand and also how to become supportive, communicative allies. Not everyone knows how to act with people who are bound to wheel chairs or with other physical, developmental or learning restrictions but through the telling of her tale, Emily, shows us how to be respect, act with compassion and just allow that everyone is part of what makes life natural. This is the groundbreaking story of a family determined to fight for equality and justice, not just for themselves, but for all people with disabilities. Their message is heard loud and clear, “Inclusion benefits everybody.”

Love this book! So cute and sweet! The illustrations are totally charming. I love the similarity in the boy’s and his father’s faces. That really pulls you into the story. The color palette is soft and subtly textured and very beautiful. Very, very nice!
The story takes you through a series of mindful and kind hearted events that lead to its happy ending. I love this book and its positive message about the beauty of imagination, creativity and the belief in the unknown.
